Today is our last day in Sydney, and we have a few things planned before we head to the airport in the late afternoon. We start with breakfast at the cafe across the road, where we enjoy our usual fare. After breakfast, we pack and tidy the apartment, and that’s when we discover a snag. Diana’s phone is the only place where we have the details of the apartment lock box and no one can remember the code. She also isn’t able to log into her email because she needs to receive a text message on her phone, which she doesn’t have!
I spend a least an hour on the phone with booking.com trying to get the code and for them to help us. They are absolutely useless and haven’t a clue what to do. They insist that they will not give us the code, suspecting us of social engineering. The fact that we are already in the apartment and just want to return the key is lost on them. You’d think people loosing their phone must happen all the time, but they can’t help us. We leave the key at the security desk, who are friendly, but complain about there always being problems with that apartment.
With the apartment behind us, we walk downtown to a left luggage service to drop off our bags. We then walk across the city to Circular Quay, for a boat ride in the harbour.
The boat operators convince us we don’t need a poncho and that they’ll just be a bit of spray. We take their word for it and take our seats. The ride starts off well, we pass the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, and the views are stunning. However, as we head out into the open water, the pilot starts to do 260 turns and stoppies. Those in the middle of the boat are fine, but were in the back row. Every time we do a stoppie, a great wave of water comes over the back of the boat, and we are absolutely drenched! The ride continues further out into the harbour and we start to dry off which is a relief. But on the way back we are treated to more stoppies, so we are drenched again before getting back to the quay.
It was a fun ride but now we’re standing on the quay, completely soaked with our luggage locked away halfway across town! Alex and I happen to have spare shorts and t-shirts in our bag, so we found a cafe on the quay for a bite to eat and used their bathroom to change. The girls don’t have a change of clothes, so after lunch we squelch up the street to the nearest H&M to buy a new set of clothes for each of them.
With everyone now dry, we head back to Darling Harbour to the theatre to see “Wicked”. We arrive early and buy a drink and snacks from the bar. Time is quite tight, so we decide to leave at the interval, as we’re all ready to go home and don’t want to miss out flight. We walk back to the left luggage service, collect our bags, and then take an Uber to the airport.
After checking in, we use the remaining Australian dollars to buy Diana a new phone before a quick bite to eat.
We board our flight and relax!
