Hadrian’s Wall Map

My mother is 80 this year, and being big walkers, she and her partner were looking for an 80-mile walking challenge to celebrate!

Walking Hadrian’s Wall turned out to be the perfect fit, as since it is in the UK and we can complete it in 6 days, the whole family can join in.

We are all a little apprehensive about the challenge, because whilst we regularly complete 20km hikes at the weekends and during holidays, we have never done 25km back to back for a week in a row!

We’ve chosen the May half-term week so that the kids can join us and fingers crossed, the weather will be good.

The plan is to start in Bowness-on-Solway on Saturday 24th May and finish in Wallsend, Newcastle Upon Tyne, on Friday 30th May. This direction is considered “backwards”, but it means we have the prevailing wind at our backs.

We’ve chosen to use Contours to book our accommodation and luggage transfers, so we can walk with just a day pack each day. We still needed to arrange our travel to the start and from the end, and we’ve bought train tickets to get to Carlisle, and then back from Newcastle.

We are all very excited about the challenge, and can’t wait to get started!
