We’re off to Lapland! We’ll be skiing Levi, inside the artic circle. We’re expecting it to be cold, but we’re excited all the same, we have some exciting activities planned, as well as 6 days of skiing. This trip will be pretty special!

The flight isn’t until midday, so it’s a civilised start to the trip. Breakfast, packed the car and off to Gatwick.

The flight to Kittilä takes around three and a half hours. Kittilä is pretty much as far north as you can get on a commercial flight — proper Arctic Circle territory — and even on the approach you can see how remote the area is. Snowy forest for miles! The cold air hits you as you leave the plane and everyone searches for their gloves and hats.

Kittilä airport is pretty small, and we’re through security quickly. The transfer to the hotel takes just 20 minutes and you can see the floodlit slopes as you’re landing.

Our hotel is ski-in/ski-out, half way up the north slope. We check in and get some dinner at the buffet before taking the Gondola down to the village for some supplies.

Wow, it is COLD. -26C tonight and we’re walking about town dressed for London temperatures, so cold it hurts! We rush through town to the super market, buy snacks and drinks and head back to the hotel as quickly as possible. We decide next time we go outside we’ll wear our ski gear!

We’re 2 hours ahead and get an early night, ready to pick up the kids skis just as the rental shop opens.
