It’s October half term and we’re off to Bali! Diana has found an Intrepid trip which is designed for teenagers. There’s beach time, white water rafting and some teenage-friendly culture too.
I’d driven up to my mum’s in Leicestershire on Wednesday to drop Einstein off for his doggy holiday in the country and drove back on Friday morning.
Storm Austen was brewing over the south of England and it was chucking it down so we decided to get an Uber rather than walk to the tube.
We arrived at Heathrow with plenty of time, and after security, headed to Giraffe for dinner.
After dinner we took the train to the gate and hung out waiting to board. After a while I got an alert on my phone to say the flight would be delayed by 30 minutes - still time to make our connection in Doha.

Some more time passed and they announced over the tannoy that there was a technical problem with the plane and they were working on repairing it. They just needed to test the engines before we could board! Sounds ominous.
After the 10-minute engine test, they let us know they needed to test them again. This time around we were thinking perhaps we didn’t want to get on this flight.
Our wishes came true and they cancelled the flight since they couldn’t confirm the engines were working properly. That was a relief but also a real pain because it was now after 10:30pm and there were no more flights out of Heathrow to Doha today.
BA put us up in the Holiday Inn for the night, so we exited through passport control and took the hotel shuttle bus over to our hotel.
It was after midnight by the time we checked in and we were in need of a nightcap. Unfortunately the bar was closed, but there was a pantry in the hotel next door which sold beer for us and Pot Noodles for the kids.
We finally got to bed around 1am having travelled 15 miles from home!
