A 7:30am wake-up, then down to the waterfront resto for breakfast. Chicken porridge again – this one was delicious, with lots of flavour and various tasty toppings.

After breakfast we headed over to reception to meet Wayan and the others before jumping in the minibus for the 45-minute ride to the snorkelling place.
On arrival, we picked up our gear and received a no-nonsense safety briefing from the South African owner of the diving company before the short drive to the beach.
The beach was volcanic rock and we were glad to have booties on! We all waded into the water and put on our fins with the help of the friendly guides.

We snorkelled at two spots. First was the coral garden, which had lots of coral with fish darting in between. Then it was back to dry land for a quick break for ice cream and mangosteens, followed by the second site, a shipwreck that’s very popular with both divers and fish!

We covered quite an area snorkelling and the second stint in particular was quite tiring due to the current and waves, but we all had a good time. We saw some pretty coral and lots of colourful fish, including clownfish, and were even lucky enough to see a turtle!

The restaurants at the beach had very slow service according to Wayan, so we headed back to the hotel for lunch. Diana had the mixed satay, which came on its own barbecue! I went for the tuna – both delicious. I think the restaurant in this hotel serves the most authentic and flavourful food we’ve had so far.

After lunch we hung out by the pool, the kids playing Marco Polo and the adults reading our books. It was a lovely few hours to relax.
At 5:30pm we met Wayan at reception and headed to a restaurant and bar down the road to watch the sunset over the volcano. We were lucky enough to get front-row beanbags and spent the next few hours swimming in the infinity pool and drinking mai tais while looking at the beautiful view.

The place closed at 9pm, so it was back to the hotel and to bed after another amazing day.
